“Regardless of how this case concludes, a young person lost their life and that is devastating,” she said. “If a decision is made to not charge in this case, the D.A.’s Office will release a comprehensive explanation of how the decision was made to the public. “If a decision to charge (Anthony) is made, this case will be prosecuted,” Breed said.
After widespread pushback from community residents and several city supervisors, she reversed course, saying the investigation was still active and leaving open the possibility she might charge him in the future. Jenkins has drawn significant criticism for declining to press charges against Anthony, saying evidence showed he acted in self-defense. She said she believed Jenkins is “committed to seeking justice for victims,” noting that the district attorney and San Francisco Police Department are continuing to investigate the fatal incident.
